Dianne Clouet has taught children in public and private settings in Vermont, New Hampshire, and New York. She has worked with educators in a wide variety of settings, including in-service trainings, professional conferences, and college classes. Dianne has used Japanese kamishibai in her curriculum planning and development for over twenty years. She has long marveled at the fascination and interest kamishibai hold for students of all ages. Dianne developed The Kamishibai Project: Storytelling in Pictures and Words, a method of helping students create their own kamishibai while simultaneously creating a community of storytellers. She shares her interest and knowledge about kamishibai with educators and students through teacher in-service, workshops, and artist-in residency programs. Dianne holds a B.A. from Hunter College, and an M.Ed. from City College of New York.
Recommendations:
“I have presented kamishibai, both in Japan and at national
educational conferences here in the U.S. Everyone was absolutely
charmed by the kamishibai created by children in Dianne’s kamishibai
workshops!”
- Margaret Eisenstadt
Co-Founder, Kamishibai for Kids, NYC
“Doing The Kamishibai Project as part of our Asian Studies unit
was a positive experience for both students and teachers. Students were
excited and engaged throughout the entire process, and were very proud
of their final product – their own kamishibai. Regardless of academic
ability, all students were successful with this project.”
- Julie Bacon and Angie Trudeau, Fourth Grade Teachers
Deerfield Valley Elementary School, Wilmington, VT
“Dianne’s curriculum included unique elements of storytelling
that were the perfect venue for developing the communication skills of
my own and other’s children.”
- Paul Smith, Ph.D.
Curriculum Coordinator
Windham Southeast Supervisory Union, Brattleboro, VT
“Dianne Clouet offered a series of kamishibai workshops for us,
to help teachers understand the process of introducing this Japanese
tradition to students in all grades. A new group of fans was born for
this wonderful tool to teach children through art, language,
sequencing, and designing. Teachers of all disciplines enjoy Dianne’s
workshops, and use her well-designed techniques to engage their
students in a multi-sensory experience that builds and reinforces
skills needed to be successful in many areas of communication. I would
highly recommend a session with Diane for faculty in all subject areas
for all ages.”
- Blanche Milligan, Executive Director,
Northeast Cultural Coop, Amherst, NH
“What a wonderful addition
kamishibai is to Marlboro’s Winter Workshops. Dianne's knowledge of the form, her strong instructional abilities, and her rapport with the students combined and resulted in an exceptional
experience for all. Our goal is for kids
to “know” art in the broadest sense; to know art as a basic form of human
expression. They certainly “got” this as
they went step by step through the process of creating their own pictures and
stories and then rehearsing their kamishibai for presentation to the school community.
Thank you for your contribution to our
students’ sense of themselves as artists.”
- Francie Marbury, Principal at Marlboro Elementary School,
Marlboro, VT,
"The Kamishibai Project fit in perfectly with our year-long study of Japan/Asia. So often students write in isolation, but with the Kamishiabi Project they had the common experience to draw upon to share their ideas, work, and end product."
- Donna Bashaw-Benvie, 2nd & 3rd Grade Teacher,
The Acworth School, Acworth, NH

I agree that some words that simply does not make sense, but hey, look at it this way ... at least your child learn more how the words before his time. I do not think it's a waste of money. If it was not a gift, I paid for it.
