After many years of using kamishibai as part of her literacy curriculum, Dianne Clouet
began helping whole classrooms of children create their own kamishibai
stories. Through her work with children, Dianne learned about the
accessibility of the picture and word method for a wide range of
student levels and abilities. Students of all ages learn the techniques
and craft of creating stories for an audience. In the process, a
community of storytellers is formed, a community filled with the
excitement and joy of creating and sharing.
The Kamishibai Project meets State Learning Standards in the areas
of communication, writing, art, cultural diversity, and teamwork. The
Kamishibai Project integrates these key aspects of curriculum to create
meaningful, connected learning experiences. Additionally, this rich
literacy and art curriculum can be integrated into social studies,
Asian studies, and history units.
Through The Kamishibai Project: Storytelling in Pictures and Words, Dianne offers:
- Artist-in Residency Programs
- Teacher Trainings
